Daniel 5
Big Idea
God is supreme and we prosper only because He allows us to.
Key Points
The King was eager to testify about his experience (1-3)
Daniel was loyal to the king and was reluctant to give him bad news. (19)
The King had time to turn around and avoid his fate. (27-29)
God makes Nebuchadnezzar beast like to show him that he was only human. (32-33)
Application
Don’t get too big for my britches. God can take anyone down.
The Verse
37 – Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of Heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.
Daniel 6
Big Idea
God humbles those who get too big for their britches (extension of yesterday’s theme)
Key Points
Belshazzar went out of his way to disrespect the items Nebuchadnezzar took from the Jewish temple. (2-3)
The writing scared the daylight out of this powerful king. (6-9)
Daniel refused to accept the king’s gifts. (17)
That night the message on the wall came true and Belshazzar was killed. (31)
Application
Sometimes God gives us more time, sometimes he doesn’t. Nebuchadnezzar got one, Belshazzar did not.
The Verse
17 – Then Daniel answered and said before the King, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the King, and make known to him the interpretation.
